£23,682. 15s and the grants from Imperial fund's were accordingly fixed at £9000 for 1910 and 12,000 for each of the two latter years - i.e. slightly less than half the reduction in 1910 and slightly over half in 1911 and 1912.

MILITARY CONTRIBUTIONS.
The present arrangement was introduced a good
many years ago as a result of an agreement with the
War
Office and Treasury.
It cannot be upset without the concurrence of these departments and the question is one of con- siderable complexity which requires very careful con- sideration before any steps can be taken. It should
not be forgotten that the contribution from "ong Kong
falls far short of the cost of the garrison and
that the Colony makes no contribution in respect of
the protection which it receives from the Navy.
